When adding videos to your website, it is important to update your sitemap to include the video or create a supplemental video sitemap instead. When you do add videos to a sitemap, what do you need to do?
First, you will need to specify the exact location of the video so that search engines will be able to crawl it. To do this, you should include either the “video:player_loc” or the “video:content_loc” tag. If you have an mRSS feed on your website, you will have to include either the “media:player” or “media:content” tag to accomplish this.
The reason to do this is to ensure that search engines like Google can accurately crawl your videos. Having the above tags in your sitemap tells Google that there is an active video on your landing page and that it should crawl the metadata to rank the video.
With the proper tags in your sitemaps, you can assure that the videos you embed will be crawled and ranked with ease.
