A few days ago, Yahoo Japan announced that it would be using Google’s search engine technology in order to power its own results in the future. This came as a big announcement for the Internet world, as Yahoo in the United States is using Bing’s technology for its search results.
So, what does this all mean? Basically, Google is fighting back to maintain its hold on the search engine industry. With Bing and Yahoo teaming up in the U.S., Google has taken to making deals overseas.
How will this affect your SEO campaigns? Well, it remains to be seen. We recently blogged about the Yahoo-Bing alliance and how you can optimize for maximum ranking on both engines. Will the same hold true for the Yahoo Japan and Google deal? As long as your pages are optimized for the major search engines, you should still see the same ranking or an improvement.
Keep in mind that Yahoo results are being powered by other search engines, so make sure that your pages are optimized for those to maximize your rankings. This means that if your website is optimized solely for Yahoo, you might want to look into optimizing all over again.
