How to Use Google+ for Business

March 7, 2012

By now your business should have a Google+ account. If not, what are you waiting for? Set one up today! Having a Google+ account isn’t just a great marketing opportunity, it also has a direct impact on SEO. Here are some ways you can use Google+ for business:

Hangouts

Google has a new feature that’s unlike anything else out there—Hangouts. This feature allows you to video chat with up to 9 people anywhere, anytime. It’s a great way to host webinars with clients or have a Q&A.

Search

Now Search Plus Your World brings users updates from public Google+ posts, from their Circles and from the web. If a customer mentions your company in a post or +1s one of your posts, it will come up in search results when someone in their Circle searches for related keywords which impacts your SEO.

Share Many Photos

Once your Google+ account is set up, you should start sharing lots of photos. Photos are a great way to get a conversation going right away, because customers are visually drawn to images. If they’re engaging, people will have something to say. By posting photos, charts, slides, etc. that are relevant to your business, it will create buzz and your content will spread.

Use Circles to Determine How You Share

The great thing about Google+ is that you can segment different customers into Circles you create depending on what group they best fall into. For example, you can put all parents into one Circle and only share a certain service or product with them. Different content can be shared with different groups.

Add Recommended Links

In order to drive traffic to your website and create business leads, you should post helpful links under the ‘About’ tab that’s located on your Google+ Page. If you link to your helpful and informative blog posts, offers or anything that you think customers can benefit from, people will click them and be taken to your website. Take full advantage of this area of your Page, because if not, you won’t be making the most of what Google+ has to offer.

Promote

Why wouldn’t you promote your Google+ Page on your website and blog? If you promote your Facebook and Twitter Pages, you should also promote your Google+ Page. This is an easy way to be added to more Circles. Because your website and blog get a lot of traffic, it’s a no-brainer that you should be cross-promoting on these sites as well as on Twitter and Linkedin. By doing this, it’s a great way to build new leads and be added to more Circles.

Ultimately, the more customers interact with your posts and mention your business in their posts, the more you will increase brand awareness. While Google+ is still relatively new and growing, there’s no doubt that it can do wonders for your business.
